Two theses hold the field. One claims that Putin marvel at Ukraine’s resistance and maybe give up fighting at some point. The other, on the other hand, claims that Russia is aiming for it slowly exhaust the opponent so as not to be forced to administer a utterly devastated nation. The second hypothesis seems more credible to me for several reasons. The United States sent to Kyiv socalled light weapons, which are useful for fighting in the city, that is, good for the guerrillas in the neighborhood. During Moscow stocks rockets able to hit any target accurately. Rockets, which he has used sparingly so far, but which he could fall back on should the need arise to finally win the competition.
That’s because the Kremlin fires hypersonic bombs they have delivered their kind with others of western armies, are technologically perfect, infallible. Certain sophisticated devices cannot be resisted. So if the tsar fails to take possession of the inhabited centers with weapons considered normal, it is obvious that he would resort to special weapons bend the knees to the Ukrainians. Many of them know the reality described, but national pride drives them not to give up in the hope of help from abroad, including from Europe, which Putin considers a criminal.
The situation is complicated, but it seems that Biden wants to turn this war into one a kind of Vietnam, where the battles are fought handinhand and protracted, weakening both sides. For since Russia is no longer Soviet, for the US it is the periphery of the world that needs to be kept in check without taking it too seriously. Putin is a lunatic, but he is not to be taken lightly given his powerful armed forces. The fighting in Ukraine is within his grasp, and unless Zelensky gives in quickly, he will do the same as his poor soldiers, forced to fight a more organized enemy. It’s just a matter of time and Kyiv and its environs will be razed to the ground. Show we would never want to see.
