The Voice Australia star Lachie Gill has made a surprise cameo on Home and Away.

The singer’s new song Hate That You Hurt appeared in a new promo for the Channel Seven soap.

Lachie, 25, told Yahoo Lifestyle on Tuesday: “I was told beforehand that it was going to be there, but I didn’t know it was going to be in the ad.”

“I thought it would be on one of the shows and you would hear it once and be happy with it, but it was in the commercial and it just kept playing.”

He went on to say that he saw the advert five or six times after turning on Channel Seven.

Lachie also said it was even more special because his girlfriend, actress Jacqui Purvis, starred in the promo.

This comes after the former Voice winner recently revealed that becoming a successful artist is incredibly difficult – even if you’ve starred on a popular singing show.

Lachie said because there are so many aspiring artists looking for their big break, a singer really has to stand out to get noticed.

“People think if they’ve just won a TV show they’re going to be a star.” “It doesn’t work that way,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

“At the end of the day, there are so many artists out there and you have to be a little different for people to want to listen to you and not someone else.”

The Melbourne native then said he had recorded an album’s worth of new songs and couldn’t wait to release them.

His warning rings true because while some singing show winners like Australian Idol’s Guy Sebastian have gone on to have successful music careers, many others disappear from the spotlight, like The Voice 2021 winner Bella Taylor Smith.

Lachie was crowned winner of The Voice Australia in June last year.

“I thought it would be on one of the shows and people would immediately hear it and be excited about it, but it was in the commercial and it just kept playing,” Lachie said
