According to Israeli MP Danny Danon, the voluntary emigration of Palestinians has already begun. “The process has begun. In the last few days, 705 Gazans have left for Canada through the Rafah border crossing,” he said on Channel 12 on Sunday, noting that the North American country has set an admission quota of 1,000 Gazans.
“Why should the people of Gaza be the only ones in the world who cannot settle elsewhere?”
“As far as voluntary emigration is concerned, everything will depend on the willingness of the receiving countries to open their doors. It is obvious that no country alone will agree to accept 100,000 or 200,000 Gazans, but if several nations accept 5,000 or 10,000, this will greatly facilitate the future of the Gaza Strip,” he continued, reiterating that it is a “human suggestion” that we should not be afraid of. “Voluntary migration is not a population transfer. There is no need to be afraid of this idea. It is legitimate for people to want to move. “Why should the residents of Gaza be the only ones in the world who cannot settle elsewhere?” asked the MP.
Despite American opposition, Israel actually supports the authorized departure of a certain number of Gazans to prepare for the post-war period. In particular, Jerusalem is expected to hold talks with Congo to persuade it to open its doors to Palestinian immigration. The Gaza Strip currently has a population of 2.3 million.
