VW recalls 246,000 Atlas SUVs due to airbag and brake problems

Volkswagen has recalled 246,000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs in the US and Canada due to wiring problems that could cause problems with the vehicles’ airbags, windows and brakes.

According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, damage to the wiring of cars can cause airbags to deploy “later than intended”, which can lead to injury to people in the car.

A wiring problem can also cause other problems in cars, including rolling down car windows and unintentionally engaging the electronic parking brake at low speeds.

According to the report, the company does not currently have a solution to this problem, however, Volkswagen will offer a reimbursement program for the recalled vehicles.

The recall includes the Volkswagen Atlas from 2019 to 2023, as well as the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport from 2020 to 2023.

Volkswagen will notify owners and dealers by mail on May 10, 2022 if their vehicles are recalled. The company will also be in touch again when a fix is developed to allow owners to bring their SUVs in for repairs.

In the meantime, owners can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website to see if their vehicles are included in the recall by searching for the vehicle identification number or VIN.
