Founding your own party will change your life and “require a lot of effort”, but it is “urgently necessary”.
Former German left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht says the decision to found a party was not an easy one for her. “I fought a lot with myself, I was torn,” she said in an interview with “Super Illu” magazine (Thursday). She always wondered if she could do it in person. “This will change my life a lot and consume a lot of energy.”
She described the project as “urgently needed”. “I don’t want to have to look in the mirror later and tell myself that I cowered out of fear or out of convenience right where I was supposed to be.”
“Very capable team, lots of good people”
After months of speculation, Wagenknecht announced on Monday that he was leaving the left and plans to found a new party. Firstly, the association “Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht” will collect donations for this purpose. The party is scheduled to be founded in January. According to Wagenknecht, she is expected to run in the European elections in June 2024. The aim is also to participate in the state elections in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg, in September.
Wagenknecht said he also wondered whether organizational challenges could be overcome: “Organizing tens of thousands of people over the long term, including the capable and honest, and keeping the crazy and extremists at bay is a mammoth task.” however, they have a “very capable team and so many good people” that she firmly believes in success.
