According to the Kremlin, the former commander of the Wagner mercenary force, Andrei Troschev, now works for the Russian Ministry of Defense.
President Vladimir Putin met with Troshev and Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, presidential office spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by RIA news agency.
Reorganization after Prigozhin’s death
The conversation was about how voluntary associations can be used in Ukraine. The Wagner mercenaries led by Yevgeny Prigozhin were important support for the Russian regular army in its war against Ukraine and were mainly deployed in the east.
However, Prigozhin led a brief mutiny on 23 and 24 June, out of discontent with the main military and defense ministry. He refused to subordinate his units to the ministry.
On August 23, Prigozhin and Dmitri Utkin, the two founders of the mercenary company, died in a plane crash. Many of Wagner’s mercenaries went to Belarus after the mutiny. The Wagner Group has also been operating in several African countries for years.
