Explains Dobby Socks

For those who don’t remember, house elves like Dobby were slaves and could only be freed if their masters gave them a piece of clothing. In the second film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry tricks Lucius Malfoy, Dobby’s “owner” at the time, into delivering a sock to free the elf. So Dobby offers the little wizard his eternal devotion and friendship.

However, in the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Dobby is killed by Bellatrix Lestrange, who hits him with a dagger. The scene was filmed on the beach at Freshwater West so fans will want to leave a sock there to honor the character.
