Giant Walmart will build its first $100 million fulfillment center in Quebec in Vaudreuil-Dorion, it has been learned The newspaper.

“Walmart Canada has not requested or received any government funding for its new processing center in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec,” spokesman Steeve Azoulay said.

This new center “equipped with high-tech sorting capacities” in the heart of Montérégie will have an area of ​​approximately 44,456 m2.

More than 225 jobs created

In addition to the labor required for construction, more than 225 jobs will be created.

The multinational plans to use this new center as a hub for its customers here and in the Atlantic provinces. It is scheduled to open in 2024. It will be able to ship more than 20 million items per year.

Investments of 1 billion US dollars

With this new strategic building, Walmart hopes to offer better product availability and improve the customer experience in store and online by providing them with faster service.

“We know this is a difficult time for our customers. That’s why we’re proud to announce significant investments,” said JP Suarez, senior vice president, chief administrative officer and regional chief executive, Walmart International.

This year, Walmart plans to renovate 17 stores in Quebec. Across Canada, investments will reach $1 billion.

In Quebec, Walmart has 71 stores and employs 14,500 people. In one year, the company purchased $3.2 billion worth of products from 500 Quebec suppliers.
