Walt Disney World Disney regrets the performance of drill team

Walt Disney World Disney “regrets” the performance of drill team “Indianettes”.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida. – Officials at Walt Disney World said a performance by a visiting team from a Texas high school that used American Indian stereotypes, including chants of “scalp them,” did not reflect the Florida resort’s values.

Port Neches-Grove High School’s “Indianettes” drill team’s performance this week at the Magic Kingdom “did not reflect our core values and we regret that it took place,” Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Wahler said in an email sent statement.

An audition tape provided by the school to be selected for the theme park resort performance did not match the actual performance, the statement said.

Wahler said new measures have been put in place to prevent this from happening again. She didn’t elaborate.

in one Video During the performance, posted to Twitter, members of the drilling team can be seen clapping their hands to their mouths and cheering while a drum hammers in the background in what is stereotypically referred to as a “war cry.”

Port Neches-Groves School District Superintendent Mike Gonzales and Indianettes Principal Cortnie Schexnaider did not immediately respond for comment. However, the county issued a statement to KFDM-TV in Beaumont, in which county officials said they were “aware of the concerns about the performance of our band and Indianettes at Disney World.”

“We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in our school district. Our district is nearly 100 years old and our board of trustees strives to always make the best decisions for our students, staff and the communities of Port Neches and Groves,” the district said.

According to a spokesman for PN-G, this is the eighth time PN-G has performed the routine at Disney World. The rep says Disney never asked about the scheduled performance in advance.
