For Charytín Goyco, it was nice to share recently with Iris Chacón. Embroiled in a media rivalry for years that is a thing of the past, they met again on the way to 70 years of television in Puerto Rico.
“Sometimes I think about the things you lose because of things in life, and you lose people who you later realize how beautiful they are. But life is what it is, you can’t change anything,” he said. SPOKESMAN Goyco was named La Rubia de América, just as Chacón was named La Vedette de América.
Both appeared in the entertainment world of the 1970s and 1980s with their respective music and television offerings from WAPA Television.

Chacón, who regularly topped the polls with her Saturday show El show de Iris Chacón, emphasized that her time at the station was “fantastic” because I was the first female producer at WAPA. There were only men. It was a very nice stage. They gave me the opportunity to grow not only as an artist but also as a producer. And also as an actress, I have written many novels,” said the actress, who also appeared in productions such as Tanairí and Escándalo, in which she played alongside Goyco.
In the case of La Rubia de América, WAPA “barbarically” changed her life. In the 1970s, she moved to Puerto Rico, where she met her husband of almost four decades, producer Elín Ortiz (1934–2016).
“Since I got married, I had already put together El Show del Mediodía by Don Tommy Muñiz. It was really a wonderful experience because it gave me a very close relationship with the people of Puerto Rico. Then the channel offered me the first half hour of Dulce Charytín and a year later switched to El Show de Charytín, which was broadcast for 25 years in other markets and also here,” reviewed Goyco.

“It was the door for young people getting married and you already have a channel to support you. Realize what that meant to me. My son (Shalim) was born here, he also worked here, that is, it is my whole life,” the Dominican continued.
Alliances, “reality” and new programs
The United States-based artists visited Puerto Rico as part of WAPA's “Upfront” 2024, where they were recognized as pillars of the station, such as Luis Antonio Cosme, Jacobo Morales, Silverio Pérez, Cary Oliver, Luisito Vigoreaux and Cristóbal Berríos “Mr. Blup”, Ángela Meyer, Rafael Bracero, Andrea Lugo, Guillermo José Torres, Alfred D. Herger, Enrique Cruz, Sunshine Logroño and Luz Nereida Vélez.
Among the 2024 initiatives, WAPA will present technologies and studies designed exclusively for the 2024 electoral process, along with the 2024 Decision Alliance between WAPA, WKAQ and SPOKESMAN.
“WAPA has been, is and will remain number one for 15 years and there is nothing else,” said Jorge Hidalgo, president and CEO of WAPA Media, who noted that the station reaches 82% of Puerto Ricans on the island.
New proposals will also be added to its program with the return of Angelique Burgos “La Burbu” to the small screen and the launch of the local “reality” super chef Famosos, a competition that involves well-known personalities and personalities from the country, that demonstrates his culinary skills.
The company will maintain its offering with Pégate al Mediodía, Viva la Afternoon, Lo Sé Todo, Data es Los Data, Cuarto Poder, El Remix and Así Esta la Verdad. Additionally, Bryan Villarini will continue to direct various specials.
