On Tuesday, November 28, the 48-hour extension of the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel will allow hostages to be released again. Twelve people are expected that evening, ten Israelis and two foreigners. Yesterday, three French-Israeli children were reunited with their families after 52 grueling days in captivity.

It is 11 p.m. on Monday evening, November 27th, when 12-year-old Eitan finds his mother’s arms. She hugs him tightly to end the 52 days of separation with tears of joy. After a night in the hospital, details about the boy’s detention began to emerge. His grandmother explains that for the first 13 days he was alone and locked in a room. “His first days were very difficult. They took him with a group from the kibbutz, where he saw one of his school teachers, also a hostage. He was very supportive of the other children. He played the big role of the brothers, had them draw, He calmed them down,” says Esther Yahalomi, Eitan’s grandmother.

Another 150 Israeli hostages

On Monday, November 27, Eitan’s captors staged his release and that of nine others. What treatment did these militiamen inflict on their young hostages? According to people close to Eitan, guards used their weapons to threaten those who cried too loudly. “He was very hungry because he didn’t have enough food for a twelve-year-old boy. They forced him to watch very cruel videos.” [du 7 octobre]”, says Eitan’s aunt. As of Tuesday evening, 150 Israeli hostages and missing people remained in Gaza, including 8 children.
