The Israeli army continues to hunt down those responsible for the October 7 attacks. Among them is Yahya Sinouar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, who has experienced Israeli prisons.

For the Israelis, he is the man to kill. Yahya Sinouar, the leader of Hamas, whose words two years ago sounded like a terrible prediction. “We will attack their cities, we will stab them, we will crush them with our cars,” he declared. The alleged mastermind of October 7, Yahya Sinouar, is well known to Israelis. As a Hamas activist, he was arrested on terrorism charges in 1989 and interrogated for hours by Micha Kobi, a former intelligence officer.

“The Butcher of Khan Younes”

“He was very proud of himself and his nickname. He himself told me: I am the butcher of Khan Younès,” he says. Sinouar was born in Khan Younes, Gaza. He told police how he killed Palestinians there who were collaborating with Israel. “He asked the brother of the person he wanted to murder to dig a grave, then put him in it and bury him carefully,” remembers Micha Kobi.

Yahya Sinouar was sick in prison and was operated on by Israeli doctors for a brain tumor. He was released from prison after 22 years and exchanged with 1,000 other Palestinian prisoners for Israeli hostage Gilad Shalit. After returning to Gaza, he became the leader of Hamas.
