Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya said on Wednesday that his organization was showing “flexibility” in its negotiations with Israel to reach a ceasefire in Gaza in return for the release of Israeli hostages, but at the same time it remained willing to continue the fighting against the Israeli military, which is carrying out the offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Haniya also stressed that “the Israeli occupation seeks to put an end to any Arab and Islamic presence in the lands of Palestine” and reiterated that “the resistance triggered the Al-Aqsa Storm – the name given to the attacks by Hamas, “October 7 against Israel – at a time when the enemy was preparing to liquidate the Palestinian cause.”
On the other hand, he stressed that “the minimum” that Hamas accepts regarding the situation on the Esplanade of Mosques is “that the status quo is respected,” and called on the Palestinians of Israel, East Jerusalem and the West Bank to move to Al-Aqsa Mosque at the start of Ramadan, which begins on March 10.
