Thousands of people in the Gaza Strip storm UN centers to seize aid from Egypt
The United Nations Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA) reported on Sunday that thousands of Gazans have raided the organization’s warehouses and distribution centers to obtain wheat flour and “basic survival supplies,” according to UNRWA.
The attacks occurred in the central and southern areas of the Gaza Strip, UNRWA Executive Director Raquel Martí reported in her X report. “In one of the warehouses in Deir al-Balah, UNRWA stores supplies from humanitarian convoys from Egypt,” Martí explained.
“This is a worrying sign that civil order is beginning to crumble after three weeks of war and a strict siege on the Gaza Strip. People are scared, frustrated and desperate. Tensions and fears are exacerbated by telephone and internet outages,” the executive said.
Martí explains that supplies “are running low and the humanitarian aid arriving in Gaza in trucks from Egypt is insufficient.” A total of 84 trucks crossed the border in seven days. No new transport arrived this Saturday due to the communication breakdown. “UNRWA, the main actor responsible for receiving and storing aid in Gaza, was unable to communicate with the various parties to coordinate the passage of the convoy,” Martí said.
