The Jewish state corrected its figures on Friday, claiming around 200 “unidentified” bodies were of Hamas terrorists. A statement was subsequently removed from official Israeli communications.

The difficult body count is being refined in Israel. On Friday, November 10, authorities revised the death toll from the October 7 Hamas attack on Israeli territory from 1,400 to 1,200 victims. The government now believes that “many of the unidentified bodies” are people involved in “the Hamas terrorist attack, rather than Israeli victims,” the Foreign Ministry told AFP. In the evening, the ministry returned to its statement and only mentioned an “updated estimate” of the balance sheet.
The previous figure of 1,400 was gradually reached in the week after the attacks and has remained stable since then. The new count was first mentioned in an Israeli diplomatic press release on Friday. “Hamas terrorists murdered around 1,200 people in cold blood and kidnapped 240, including babies, children, women and the elderly,” it said. Such figures cannot be independently confirmed at this time, nor can the death toll in Gaza, which the Hamas-affiliated Ministry of Health puts at over 11,000, including more than 4,500 children.
