Thousands of Israelis demonstrated on Saturday, January 20, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was accused of continuing the war to stay in power. In this context, the Israeli army released images showing a tunnel in the Gaza Strip where hostages were allegedly being held.

The Israel Defense Forces released images of a Hamas tunnel where Israeli hostages were being held on Sunday, January 21. Located in Khan Younes in the south of the Gaza Strip, it is 830 meters long and 20 meters deep. After crossing the entrance to the subway, where hidden bombs awaited them, the army discovered a long electrical grid, mattresses on the floor, piles of dishes and even a bathroom.

“About twenty hostages were held in this tunnel.”

No hostages were found; they were all transferred. “The fighters located the opening of the tunnel according to precise information in the house of a Hamas terrorist. (…) About twenty hostages were held in this tunnel in difficult conditions,” explained Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli army. According to the New York Times, Hamas' subway network stretches nearly 450 miles (720 km) and has 6,000 entrances.
