Switzerland is providing 100 million euros for mine clearance
Switzerland declares humanitarian demining in Ukraine a priority and is making an additional 100 million francs available for this purpose. The package is financed equally by the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA).
In the last two years, the Swiss Confederation has already supported humanitarian demining in Ukraine with 15.2 million francs, in particular to support the activities of the International Center for Humanitarian Mine Clearance (GICHD) based in Geneva and the Swiss organization Fondation suisse de déminage (FSD).
The VBS has donated a demining device from the Jura-based Digger Foundation to Ukrainian humanitarian organizations and is funding the training of Ukrainian experts in humanitarian demining through the GICHD.
With the additional 100 million package, Switzerland will be able to further expand the demining work of these and other organizations, provide Ukrainian deminers with equipment and training, support the government in coordinating this project and explore innovative approaches , said the Swiss government. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an article on Viola Amherd that he was “grateful” to Switzerland for the new means of demining.
