According to local authorities, 458 bodies were found in Boutcha, northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, the municipality lists on its Facebook page. Among the victims, 419 were killed, for the others “the causes of death of the others emerge”, specified the City Hall during a press conference on Monday August 8, the subject of which was announced as “relevant and painful”.

Among the bodies listed, Boutcha counts “366 men, 86 women, five unrecognizable, one bag of body parts unrecognizable as bodies” and “12 children” under the age of 21. Since Ukraine regained control of the Kyiv region on April 2, about a month after Russian troops began the invasion, residents of Bucha have been searching and collecting the bodies of the dead themselves.

“There are still many unburied,” Ukrainian MP Mykhailyna Skoryk-Shkarivska noted on her social media on Monday. “We will try to identify everyone,” she assures, asking for help and “the experience of other countries.”

The question of a possible war crime committed during the Boutcha march remains open while an investigation by the International Criminal Court has been launched. The testimonies of victims of rape by the Russian occupying forces have also multiplied.
