An adviser close to the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army was killed in the explosion of an “unknown device” on Monday, November 6, the military official said on the social network Telegram. This item was “in one of the presents” sent to the victim for her birthday.
Valery Zalouzhny clarified that a preliminary investigation had been launched. The death of Gennady Chastyakov was “a grave loss for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and for me personally,” he again regretted in a press release published on Instagram. He said he felt “indescribable pain.”
An unusual scenario
Since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, attacks on Ukrainian leaders have been relatively rare. Several Russian occupation officials and supporters of the Russian attack have already been targeted.
Last April, a famous Russian military blogger named Vladlen Tatarskiï was killed in the explosion of a gifted statuette in Saint Petersburg, northwestern Russia. This case recalls the death of Daria Douguina in August 2022. The daughter of Russian ultranationalist ideologue Alexander Dugin, an ardent supporter of the Russian invasion, died in the explosion in her father’s car.
