War in Ukraine: British journalists fired upon

UKRAINE. The Sky News channel released this Saturday, March 5, chilling footage of an incident that took place this week with the participation of its journalists in Ukraine. In the suburbs of Kyiv, the group was attacked by armed men, who, according to Ukrainians, were called Russian saboteurs.

Sky News reporters were driving through the town of Bucha, about 30 kilometers from the Ukrainian capital, on Monday, Feb. 28, when they were attacked. as you can see in our video at the top of the article. Although they posed as journalists, their car was shot at several times, shattering the windshield and dashboard.

Two passengers were injured inside: journalist Stuart Ramsay, who was shot in the lower back, and his cameraman, Richie Mockler, who received two bullets and continued filming. They were both saved by bulletproof vests.

The five occupants of the car managed to escape and take refuge in a nearby factory. They were rescued by Ukrainian police hours later and have since returned to the UK.

The press, the target of the Kremlin

In his March 5 report, journalist Stuart Ramsay referred to a “professional ambush”, saying the attackers were Russian saboteurs targeting fleeing civilians. “We are very lucky. But thousands of Ukrainians are dying, and Russians are targeting families. We were in an ordinary car when we were attacked,” he added.

The Western media coverage of this attack comes a day after the Kremlin-led radical turn of the screws. Russia passed a new law providing for imprisonment for spreading “false information about the army” about the invasion of Ukraine. According to Moscow, this is a response to the “information war” being waged against Russia.

Specifically, journalists in Russia face up to 15 years in prison in case of “false information” about the war in Ukraine. As a result, several news outlets, including Radio-Canada and CNN, have suspended their journalists in Russia for security reasons.
