War in Ukraine: Convicted of murdering and raping 78 women, Russia’s worst serial killer wants to die

Mikhail Popkov says he wants to use his “military profile” for the benefit of his homeland.

Fighting for half a year at the front in Ukraine against automatic release is the deal that the Wagner group is offering Russian prisoners. A way to replenish his ranks when Putin’s army is struggling to recruit new soldiers. And a tempting offer that has already convinced many inmates. The newest: Mikhail Popkov.

Russia’s worst serial killer

The Russian prisoner announced his intention join Wagner’s troops on state television, reports BFMTV. During his interview, he explains that he wants to use his “military profile” in favor of the Russian army. “We’re looking for it at the moment,” he said. And further: “Although everything is more modern nowadays and I’ve been in prison for ten years, I think that relearning will not be difficult for me.”
