War in Ukraine: Kiev attacks a Russian shipyard in Crimea

The Ukrainian army carried out an attack on Wednesday on a shipyard in Sevastopol, the home port of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in annexed Crimea.

A Ukrainian attack caused a shipyard in Sevastopol on the Moscow-annexed Crimean peninsula to burn early Wednesday, injuring 24 people, the local governor reported.

“I am at the scene of a fire on the southern site of Sevmorzavod (Sevastopol shipyard; editor’s note). All operational services are deployed on site,” Russian Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvoyayev said on Telegram on Wednesday morning.

“As a result of the attack, according to initial information, a total of 24 people were injured,” Razvozhayev added.

Stress point

According to the governor, the fire was the result of a “missile attack” by Kiev on Sevastopol, the home port of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in annexed Crimea.

Since the offensive against Ukraine began in February 2022, Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, has been a regular target of air and naval drone attacks.

On August 25, for example, Moscow claimed to have shot down 42 Ukrainian drones in Crimea, describing a massive attack on that annexed peninsula that Kiev had said the day before had succeeded in a rare commando operation.
