- A ship is scheduled to enter the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk in the south of the country on Saturday to load grain. On Friday morning, three ships loaded with a total of more than 58,000 tons of corn left Ukrainian ports. They will serve Ireland, the UK and Turkey.
- Amnesty International Ukraine Director Oksana Pokalchuk announced her resignation on Friday. After the release of a report by the NGO pointing to Ukrainian tactics endangering civilians, Ms Pokalchuk condemned the international bureau’s decision not to involve the Ukrainian team in its investigation
- Rockets were fired near a nuclear reactor at the Zaporizhia power plant on Friday. A high-voltage power line was damaged in this attack, shutting down one of the plant’s reactors, the largest in Europe. Russia denies responsibility and accuses Ukraine of “nuclear terrorism”.
- the russian president, Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan met in Sochi and decided to strengthen energy and economic cooperation. The two presidents agreed that supplies of Russian gas to Turkey should be “partly paid for in rubles”.
- In The Field, On Friday the Russians again bombed Mykolaiv. About 20 people were injured, including a 14-year-old boy at the entrance to a church, and homes were damaged. A curfew was imposed in that city until Monday morning.
- Ukrainian forces conduct a counteroffensive in the south, where they claim to have recaptured more than fifty villages that had previously fallen victim to Russian soldiers. According to observers, Russia is moving its armed forces towards southern Ukraine in response to the Ukrainian army’s counter-offensive.
