Zelenskyy demands the confiscation of Russian assets as compensation for the damage suffered
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday offered his allies a multilateral deal to seek compensation from Russia for damage caused by its armed forces during the war.
Mr Zelensky, who says Russia is trying to destroy as much infrastructure in Ukraine as possible, said such a deal would show nations planning aggressive actions against other countries that they must pay the price.
“We invite our partners to sign a multilateral agreement and create a mechanism to ensure that anyone who has suffered from Russia’s actions can receive compensation for all losses suffered,” he said in a video address.
According to the agreement proposed by the Ukrainian president, Russian funds and assets in the signatory countries would be confiscated and then directed to a special compensation fund.
“That would be fair. And Russia would feel the brunt of every missile, every bomb, every shell it fires at us,” he said.
