- The 36-hour unilateral Russian ceasefire announced by Vladimir Putin to celebrate Orthodox Christmas ended Saturday night without actually stopping hostilities. Kyiv accuses Moscow of not honoring its own ceasefire; Russia, in turn, accused the Ukrainians of having prevented its application by forcing them to take retaliatory measures.
- “The world could see once again today how lies are all the words spoken at the highest level in Moscow”said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday evening. “You spoke of a so-called ceasefire… but the reality is that Russian shells continued to hit Bakhmout and other Ukrainian positions,” he added.
