  • In a joint statement on Thursday, the United States, Japan and South Korea condemned North Korea’s arms sales to Russia for the war in Ukraine, the US State Department reported. “Such arms deliveries, which we now confirm have been completed, will significantly increase the number of people in Russia’s war of aggression,” the statement said.
  • Vladimir Putin led an exercise simulating a retaliatory nuclear strike during military maneuvers. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, these maneuvers are aimed at simulating “the launch of a massive nuclear attack by strategic offensive forces in response to an enemy nuclear attack.”
  • The Ukrainian energy minister regrets an attack near the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant. On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, “enemy shelling” damaged buildings near the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant in the west of the country, reports the Ukrainian Energy Ministry. In his daily address, the Ukrainian president says the attack that damaged buildings near the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant was aimed at the power plant itself.
  • The Institute for War Research (ISW) reports counter-offensives by the Ukrainian armed forces in the east and south of the country. The American think tank notes that Ukrainian troops advanced south of Bakhmut and west of Zaporizhzhia Oblast on Tuesday.
  • Robert Fico, who was hostile to Ukraine and positive towards Russia, was appointed head of the Slovak government. He has said he is ready to end the country’s military aid to Ukraine, opposes European Union sanctions against Russia and wants to prevent Kiev from joining NATO. His first diplomatic outing will take place on Thursday at the opening of the European Council.
