War in Ukraine live: “The Russian invasion is beginning to fail in many areas,” says British Defense Secretary

“The Russian invasion is beginning to fail,” said Britain’s Defense Secretary

According to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, the Russian invasion is flagging and “is beginning to fail in many areas”.

“They have failed so far and will probably never succeed in occupying Ukraine,” Ben Wallace told reporters on Thursday, August 11.

The press conference by defense ministers from the UK, Denmark and Ukraine followed an international donors’ conference at which 26 countries announced €1.5 billion in additional military aid to Ukraine.

“President Putin bet that by August (…) we would all be fed up with the conflict (…). Well, we’re proving the opposite today,” Ben Wallace said.

Exact donation totals from all countries, including France, Germany and the United States, have not been released, but Denmark has announced an additional envelope of $114 million, bringing its efforts to nearly $417 million since the start of the Russian invasion. Britain, which co-hosted the meeting with its Scandinavian ally and Ukraine, pledged 300 million euros.

“Our partners know that we need money and have agreed to support us financially,” said Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiï Reznikov.

The donor group is scheduled to meet again in mid-September.
