War in Ukraine: New mass grave with 9,000 bodies discovered

Russian atrocities never end.

A mass grave with up to 9,000 dead is said to have been discovered in Manhush, near Mariupol. The mayor of the now almost completely destroyed city writes this on Telegram.

Vadym Bojchenko accuses the Russians of wanting to “hide their war crimes”. They took the bodies of civilians from Mariupol and buried them in the city, about 20 kilometers to the west.

Indeed: Satellite images from Maxar Technologies show before and after images – taken on March 19 and April 3 – along a road. Clearly visible: excavations, which should have been the long mass grave. According to Maxar, the pits in Manhush were dug in late March and enlarged in the following weeks.

Indignity: “The bodies of the dead were brought in by truck and simply dumped in the ditches,” said an aide to the mayor.

In view of the current Russian war crimes, Bojchenko speaks of a “new Babyn Yar”. In 1941, the National Socialists murdered over 33,000 Jewish men, women and children in the eponymous valley. “Now Putin is crushing the Ukrainians. He has already killed tens of thousands of civilians in Mariupol,” said one councilor quoting the mayor.

Wadym Bojchenko called for the intervention of the international community. “We must stop this genocide by any means possible,” said the mayor.

However, he denies that Mariupol fell into the hands of Russian attackers. “The city was, is and will continue to be Ukrainian.” And yet: “Even today our brave warriors and heroes defend our city.”

Time and again, Putin’s henchmen clash with atrocities on Ukrainian soil: in Bucha, for example, dead people lay in the streets with their hands tied behind their backs. There were also reports of torture, rape and mass killings of civilians in many other towns and villages.
