In this post on Facebook, the prime minister used this commemoration to attack the Russian president. “Let’s remember on the day of the liberation of Hitler’s German death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau that Vladimir Putin is building new camps in the east,” he said.
“Exactly a year ago I wrote: ‘When the specter of a new war hangs over Europe, only truth, cooperation, solidarity and drawing the right conclusions from a tragic history can ensure that something like this does not happen again.’ These words have never been as topical as they are today,” said Mateusz Morawiecki on social networks.
This statement, intended as a further verbal escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, is similar to that of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who last October compared Olenivka prison to a “concentration camp where our prisoners are prisoners”.
At the same time, this morning Vladimir Putin assured that “neo-Nazis in Ukraine” were committing crimes against civilians. “Forgetting the lessons of history leads to the repetition of terrible tragedies. Russia was not invited to the commemorations for the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camps this year due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During World War II, a million European Jews were deported and killed there.
