The war in Ukraine began more than two years ago and Canada's position remains the same: Justin Trudeau's country supports the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. What does People's Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier think? He spoke about the situation in the latest episode of Mathieu Bock-Côté's podcast at QUB.
Maxime Bernier is very categorical: Canada should not get involved in this war. He goes even further. According to him, the country is playing a role in prolonging the conflict by sending money and weapons to Ukraine.
“Canada has no business interfering in this war, now we see that it is a proxy war between the United States and Russia,” he emphasized at the outset.
Maxime Bernier reiterates that the People's Party of Canada (PPC) has advocated the same strategy since the beginning of the war and believes that intervening in the conflict only increases the risks of a third world war.
Referring to the Russian President's comments during his interview with Tucker Carlson, he emphasizes that Vladimir Putin is even “ready to negotiate peace” and reiterates that “Russia is not the enemy of Canada.”
The leader of the People's Party of Canada also wanted to correct those who compare Vladimir Putin to Hitler.
“That is completely wrong. He has no intention of invading Europe,” he stressed.
Finally, Maxime Bernier mentioned that he very much hopes that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO.
