For the Ukrainian president, one of Russia’s main strategies would be to overthrow him.
“Our secret services have information that also comes from our partners” that Moscow wants to cause “chaos” and a coup to overthrow Zelensky, the Ukrainian president assured the American media Bloomberg this Friday.
Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia’s disinformation plan would be known internally as “Maidan 3,” a reference to the central square in Kiev that was at the heart of the 2004 and 2014 uprisings.
It was the large rallies in this square that particularly led to the overthrow of the Russian-backed regime of President Viktor Yanukovych.
Zelensky believes that Russia is trying to sow division in Ukrainian society, create domestic “chaos” and ultimately overthrow the president.
“The Maidan is a coup for them, so the operation is understandable,” Zelensky said.
Information apparently confirmed by Ukrinform, the Ukrainian press agency, which cited sources from National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksi Danilov, who believes that the FSB wants to launch a pro-Russian political project in Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Russia is ready to invest heavily in conducting powerful disinformation activities to achieve its goals.
