Nuclear submarines and underwater drones are among the new weapons to be delivered to Russia by the end of the year. Moscow is seeking a turnaround in the war that has been going on for over 18 months. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed this, noting that the Russian Navy has already received two new ships this year and will receive 12 more by the end of 2023, Russian state news agency RIA reported.

“New projects for submarines and unmanned underwater vehicles and robotic systems are being developed for the Russian Navy,” Shoigu announced during a visit to the headquarters of the Russian Pacific Fleet, where he checked the fulfillment of state procurement contracts at the Zvezda Submarine Shipyard in the City of Bolshoi Kamen.
Shoigu, who attended the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a few days ago, also visited the Progress plant in the city of Arsenyev, which produces Ka-52 military helicopters.
Moscow is ready to meet the Pope’s envoy
Meanwhile, Moscow has expressed its willingness to meet again with the Pope’s envoy to Ukraine, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, in China in recent days, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. “The Vatican continues its efforts. The Pope’s envoy will return soon. We are ready to meet and talk to everyone,” he said.
Lavrov referred to Turkey’s efforts – “they also have different ideas” – the under-the-radar work of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, especially to organize the exchange of prisoners of war. Last June, Cardinal Zuppi was in the Ukraine, Russia and the United States. Yesterday he was received at the Foreign Ministry in Beijing by Li Hui, Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs.
