War in Ukraine: Russia says it has foiled a new drone attack on the Crimean bridge

Russia says it has foiled a drone attack on the Crimean bridge

Russia said it shot down three Ukrainian naval drones in the Black Sea on Friday night that were reportedly targeting the Crimean bridge.

“On September 2, approximately at 2:20 Moscow time [1 h 20, heure de Paris] “The third unmanned Ukrainian semi-submersible, sent by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, was destroyed in the Black Sea,” the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Telegram.

On August 12, two Ukrainian missile attacks were foiled over this strategic bridge crossing the Kerch Strait. This structure, which was built at great expense on the orders of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, after the annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014, has been the target of Ukrainian attacks on several occasions.

An earlier attack in July caused significant damage to the road section of the structure, which is also used to transport military equipment to the Russian army fighting in Ukraine.

The 18-kilometer-long concrete bridge, inaugurated by Vladimir Putin in 2018, consists of two parallel structures, one reserved for road traffic and the other for rail traffic.

Crimea itself is also a regular target of Ukrainian attacks.
