War in Ukraine: Russian army fires missiles from submarine at targets for first time

Russian authorities announced on Friday that they fired several Kalibr missiles from a submarine at Ukrainian military installations.

Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Friday that it had hit targets in Ukraine after firing missiles from a submarine based in the Black Sea.

For example, several Kalibr missiles were used by the Russian army against Ukrainian military installations. The Kalibr is a cruise missile that can be fired from ships or submarines at land targets and can fly up to 2,000 kilometers.

“The crew of a Black Sea Fleet submarine fired a Kalibr cruise missile at the military infrastructure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a telegram.

According to Russian news agency Interfax, this is the first time Ukrainian targets have been attacked by a Russian submarine.

British defense officials warned on Thursday that 20 Russian naval vessels, including submarines, were in the Black Sea and “have the capability to attack Ukrainian coastal targets”.
