Crimea is barricaded. On a road leading into the territory, thousands of steel pyramids are transported by the Russians. The aim is to stop the next Ukrainian offensive with so-called “dragon teeth”. Russia does not want to lose the peninsula annexed in 2014. Satellite images confirm the meteoric progress of the fortification work. Between January and February many more trenches were dug and a dragon’s tooth wall was built.
“Putin won’t let go of Crimea”
The scenario is the same on the Crimean Canal. All strategic roads are now full of fortifications. “This means that no matter what happens, Putin will not let go of Crimea and that he will use any means possible to protect this 2014 war prize,” says Gen. Vincent Desportes, professor of military strategy at Sciences Po and HEC. Due to a lack of manpower, the Russian army even recruits through classified ads.
