The Irpin Bridge, which was destroyed at the beginning of the war, was replaced by a new building. The rubble of the old passage bears witness to the suffering of the residents.

A brand new bridge. For Irpin (Ukraine) ancient martyr city, the symbol of rebirth. Nobody has forgotten the images of the first days of the war in February 2022. Residents try to flee their bombed-out city to Kiev, with the concrete of the bridge their only refuge. Tatiana Blizniuk was one of these desperate characters. She agrees to return to the old bridge, which was destroyed by the Ukrainians to prevent the Russians from advancing on the capital. It is preserved as a monument next to the new building. “It's the first time I've come back here since the day it happened. “I was so scared that we had to go under the bombs to reach the bridge,” she explains.

“The way of life”

A bridge full of pain. 41 residents died while crossing. The mayor of the city also remembers the new building, but prefers to think about the future: “This bridge is now part of our history. We have evacuated more than 40,000 residents here. This is the bridge between death and life. That's why.” we call it the way of life today.” “The reopening of the Irpin Bridge is particularly symbolic at the moment. A little hope as the counteroffensive subsides and the cold continues to grip the country,” emphasizes Stéphanie Perez, special correspondent in Irpin.
