Since the start of the Russian-led offensive in Ukraine, the work of Ukrainian farmers in the country has been hampered, while the blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports has prevented grain from being exported by ship to anywhere in the world.
However, many countries rely on Ukrainian and Russian food. Food prices, already very high before the war, exploded in the markets with the risk of increasing food insecurity in the most vulnerable countries.
Luc Bronner, a great reporter for Le Monde, traveled to Ukraine to report to farmers. In this episode of the podcast “L’Heure du Monde” he tells how Ukrainian agricultural logistics is being gripped by the war. Mathilde Gérard, journalist at the Planète du Monde service, explains how the conflict is affecting food security in many countries and outlines solutions to mitigate the shock.
An episode produced by Esther Michon, directed by Florentin Baume and presented by Morgane Tual.
