To fight the Russian invader, the United States has just sent Ukraine more than a hundred new-generation suicide drones: the Phoenix Ghost. They were developed in record time.
A drone specially designed for Ukraine
“The Phoenix Ghost was quickly developed by the US Air Force as a specific answer to Ukrainian needs,” said an American official quoted by Breaking Defense. “It’s a great example of how to adapt to their situation in real time.”
With the weather warming in Ukraine, there are fears that the Russian military is making rapid advances in the country. To remedy this risk, the Phoenix Ghost drone could be one of the solutions. This autonomous and easy-to-use drone has been adapted for use in the Donbass region. It is designed to attack deep into enemy positions and deliver blows, requiring minimal tracking once launched.
Full US commitment
120 examples will initially be shipped to Kyiv as part of a new $800 million military aid plan approved by the Biden administration. This American reinforcement also includes 72 guns, 75 armored vehicles and 144,000 artillery ammunition. Enough to equip “the equivalent of five battalions” of artillery, according to the Pentagon.
For its part, France is one of the countries that also supply man-portable missiles whose efficiency is far superior to that of the Russian models.
