This project was launched by the SPVQ in 2019 with the aim of combating armed violence
The number of searches carried out (165) and the number of files examined (127) also exploded in 2023.
About 72 firearms that resemble real weapons were confiscated last year, compared to 32 in 2022 and 31 in 2021.
“These are weapons that are often made of plastic, so they cannot even be detected with a metal detector,” says former SPVQ investigator Roger Ferland. It is extremely annoying to know that young organized crime people are currently starting to manufacture weapons that are fake weapons but capable of firing projectiles.”
