“Indecision, lack of support or attempts at mediation with Russia only embolden Russia and exacerbate the military conflict. Support for Ukraine is more necessary than ever,” said Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte at the end of the meeting held today in Vilnius with her Polish counterpart Donald Tusk. During the meeting, Simonyte and Tusk reiterated their shared concerns about the situation in Ukraine and the need to implement bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Poland to strengthen support for the country and overall security in the Baltics and Central Europe. “Strengthening defense, coupled with support for Ukraine, is the best investment for NATO’s overall security,” Simonyte said. “There must be no vulnerable points in the alliance's defense structure.” Similar tones were struck during the meeting with Tusk by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who recalled the need to respect the commitment made by European countries last year to Ukraine with a million rounds of ammunition.
