The G7’s support for Ukraine will not be undermined by the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, the incumbent President of Japan has made clear ahead of the meeting of foreign ministers today and tomorrow in Tokyo with Dmytro Kuleba video link.
“Our commitment to continuing tough sanctions against Russia and firmly supporting Ukraine will in no way be called into question, even as the situation in the Middle East worsens,” Tokyo diplomatic chief Yoko Kamikawa said in a news conference.
The message was reiterated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken after a meeting with his Japanese counterpart: The G7’s support for Ukraine is enduring and will be a key point of the meeting, but one that highlights the war in the Middle East and… the need for one pause in fighting and humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
