Spain will open a diplomatic antenna in Moldova

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, this Friday entrusted his Moldovan counterpart, Nicu Popescu, with the support of Spain in the face of recent events in the country, which has registered several explosions in the separatist region of Transnistria.

“I sent Spain’s support and solidarity to Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu and we exchanged views on the situation in his country,” Albares wrote on his Twitter account.

The call comes after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was postponed just 24 hours before his trip to Moldova, which he was due to start on Thursday, was due to meet with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and the President. Maia Sandu and a visit to a Ukrainian refugee center in Chisinau.

On the other hand, the aim of Sánchez’s visit, in addition to transferring Spain’s support to Moldova in the current circumstances, was also to boost bilateral relations, which are celebrating their 30th anniversary, since until now they have been very modest. “We will strengthen our diplomatic mission in Moldova with a permanent presence in the coming weeks,” Albares told Popescu.
