Another merger could be imminent. A Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and the Paramount Global met to discuss a possible integration of the two companies. The information was published by Axios and confirmed by Variety.
The CEO of WBD, David Zaslavwould have met with the CEO of Paramount, Bob Bakish, this Tuesday (19), in New York, to discuss the hypothesis. Zaslav also spoke Shari Redstonethe allpowerful president of the conglomerate National Amusements Inc., which controls part of Paramount.
Although details of the meeting were not disclosed, one of the topics was a merger of the two streaming services Paramount+ It is Max to create a stronger competitor to Netflix and Disney+ (which, by the way, recently announced plans to add the Star+ catalog).
It remains unclear whether WBD would be willing to buy Paramount or National Amusements. Axios sources say both options have been discussed.
This is not the first time that Warner Bros. appears on the market by acquiring another company. It is worth remembering that the current configuration of the group is the result of its acquisition by Discovery Communications last year. Paramount Global was formed from the merger of CBS and Viacom.
It is therefore believed that a merger could be beneficial for both brands Paramount would benefit as it has encountered difficulties in securing commercial partnerships in the international market for its mainline titles, while Warner is pursuing its streaming ambitions with its children's content catalogue could consolidate from Paramount.
A Of highest importance and that WBD did not comment on this.
