Berlin, March 3 (.).- The warning strikes called by the Verdi services union paralyzed the S-Bahn trains in seven German federal states this Friday, including the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia (west) and Bavaria (south), the most populous in the country .
The partial interruptions also affect long-distance bus services in the federal states mentioned as well as in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate (both in the west), Lower Saxony (middle), Baden-Württemberg (south) and Saxony (east).
The mobilizations are part of Verdi’s campaign of warning strikes by the entire public sector, which have been affecting or paralyzing the airports in Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin and Düsseldorf since the beginning of the year.
The collective bargaining dispute affects around 2.5 million public sector employees who are dependent on both the federal and local governments, including airport ground staff.
Verdi is demanding a 10.5% salary increase, or at least €500 per month, based on cumulative inflation and actual loss of purchasing power.
The last round of negotiations a week ago did not result in any rapprochement between the employers and this union.
Employers have criticized the call for this new round of strikes, which also coincides with the anti-climate movement’s Fridays for Future protest day, with 250 demonstrations across the country, and will affect citizen mobility just outside the weekend.
