The US believes that it is entirely possible for Russia to use nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war. This became clear at a NATO meeting.
The US warned its allies of a possible Russian escalation. “We all watch and are concerned that Vladimir Putin could use what he considers a tactical non-strategic nuclear weapon,” US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman told a NATO meeting.
“Must be vigilant”
Sherman fears the Russian president could force an escalation. “It is very important that we remain vigilant in this regard.”
Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, the possible use of nuclear weapons has hung over Europe like the sword of Damocles. The Russian side itself has repeatedly warned – sometimes subtly, sometimes blatantly – against the use of nuclear weapons.

The parking of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus caused an uproar. The step was justified at the time as “increasing our defense capacity”. An exact location was not mentioned at the time, but Poland is right on the “western border”. The corresponding weapons depots should be completed in early July.
