Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has agreed to a deal to become the franchise’s new general manager, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Rising from vice president of basketball operations, Dunleavy, 42, will replace former president and GM Bob Myers, who recently stepped down after 11 seasons and four championships.

Dunleavy’s representatives at Excel Sports Management on Thursday finalized talks over a new long-term deal with owner Joe Lacob, sources said. A formal announcement is scheduled for Friday morning, with a press conference scheduled for Monday.

Dunleavy, along with Kirk Lacob, executive vice president of basketball operations, will assume major decision-making roles for the Warriors. After being drafted third overall in 2002 and spending more than four seasons with the Warriors, Dunleavy played 15 seasons in the NBA before retiring. Myers hired him as a scout in 2018 and his rise through the Warriors’ front office has been rapid.

The Warriors are nearing a major turning point in the franchise, which also includes Draymond Green’s $27.6 million player option for next season, as well as talks about a possible extension and plans for Klay Thompson when he retires of his contract. The Warriors face a potential $500 million payroll and luxury tax bill, as well as looming collective agreement changes that will penalize high-spending teams like the Warriors.

Golden State lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals last season.

Dunleavy is the son of longtime NBA player, coach and CEO Mike Dunleavy Sr. and won a national championship with Duke in 2001.
