Washington quarterback Will Rogers entered his name into the transfer portal Friday evening, marking the second time he has been in the portal in the last two months.

Rogers first entered his name into the database on Nov. 27 when he transferred from Mississippi State. His coach, Zach Arnett, was fired on Nov. 13 and replaced by Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, prompting Rogers to enter the portal for the first time.

He announced he would be transferring to Washington on Dec. 15 and appeared to be Kalen DeBoer's replacement at quarterback for the outgoing Michael Penix Jr.

Rogers was enrolled at the school and even stood on the sideline at the national championship game against Michigan wearing a Washington jersey, watching what would become his new team.

DeBoer then took the head coaching job at Alabama on Friday, two days after Nick Saban resigned, and now Rogers is back in the portal.

He has the opportunity to transfer again, which is technically considered his second transfer, in part because of a federal judge's injunction in West Virginia that granted immediate eligibility to college athletes who had to sit out a year because of the previous NCAA policy for players who transferred more than once. The NCAA then announced that any player who transfers multiple times will be immediately eligible to play in the 2024 season as long as they transfer before the end of the 2023-24 academic calendar. Rogers falls under this rule and can transfer to a new school without penalty.

He was the fifth Washington player to enter the transfer portal on Friday, joining second-team All Pac-12 cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, safety Mishael Powell, linebacker Ethan Barr and tight end Tre Watson.

Washington loses Penix at quarterback and Dylan Morris and Will Haskell also enter the transfer portal. With Rogers also in the portal, the quarterback room will remain sparse if he decides to transfer. The team has signed four-star Austin Mack for the 2023 class, but the roster won't have much experience at the position if Rogers departs.
