Police are now involved in the case, which took place in Ohio on Thursday after a third-round duel at the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Disappointed with the Memphis Tigers’ loss to the Bowling Green Falcons, player Jamirah Shutes attacked an opponent.
The 23-year-old paused in the handshake line to give Elissa Brett her thoughts. Shutes punched her rival in the face, who collapsed immediately. The attacker’s teammates immediately removed her from the scene. Seen here:

The two young women fought throughout the encounter, Brett being elbowed by shutes early in the encounter. It was the player’s last game in his fifth year with the Tigers.
According to the New York Post, the case is now with the Bowling Green State University Police Department. As this is an ongoing investigation, the school has not commented. “Our priority is the health, safety and support of our student-athletes,” she said.
