Halloween is still about a week away, but one Western Junior League (WHL) team has already had fun impersonating county officials.
Sunday was Referee Appreciation Night in the Western Canada League, and the Vancouver Giants played their best. To pay tribute to them, the players wore replica jerseys during the game against the Spokane Chiefs.
Did the officials have a soft spot for Manny Viveiros’ squad? We have to believe so, because the Giants won the game 5 to 3, ending a five-game losing streak.
Luckily for the Chiefs, there was little room for error between their opponents and the referees as they wore white jerseys for the occasion. Still, watching a zebra-print skater perform a check or a shot on goal is a pretty unusual scene.
