A very unusual scene occurred on Wednesday in the game between the Laval Rocket and the Rochester Americans.
Montreal Canadiens farm club goaltender Strauss Mann scored an empty-net goal in the first period… and was even outnumbered! Watch this feat in the video above.
While the opposing goalie returned to the bench after a penalty against the Rocket thanks to a sixth skater, forward Filip Cederqvist tried to pass the puck to a teammate in the slot. However, the valuable object was deflected to Mann and then ended up in the visitors’ goal.
Since the goaltender was the last Rocket player to touch the puck, he was credited with the goal. He is the 21st goalie in American League history to score.
The 25-year-old American will play his third match in front of the Rocket cage in 2023-2024. Last year he wore the colors of the San Jose Barracuda.
